Intranet
An intranet is a computer network protocol based on TCP / IP as the internet it's just used in the internal enterprise, offices, and even internet cafes (WARNET) can be categorized Intranet. Between Intranet can communicate with each other through an Internet connection that provides the backbone of long-distance communication. However, actually an Intranet not need external connection to the Internet to function properly. Intranet use all the TCP / IP Protocol TCP / IP, IP addresses, and other protocols), the client and the server. HTTP protocol and several other Internet protocols (FTP, POP3, or SMTP) is generally a component of a protocol used. the intranet can be understood as a "private version of the Internet", or as a version of the Internet that are owned by an organization.
If an enterprise / business / institutional expose some of the internal network to the outside community, this is called extranets. It usually does not remove all the contents of the intranet to the public to make the intranet to the extranet. For example, we're buying software, books etc from an e-store, then usually we can access most of the Intranet store. Business entities / companies can block their access to the intranet via a router and put a firewall. A firewall is a software / hardware set someone into intranet access. Protection through various network parameters if it's IP address, port number, etc.. If the firewall is enabled then access can be controlled so that we can access only a part of the company Intranet which later became known as the extranet.
Intranet usability
Essentially the software applications used in Intranet is not much different from that used on the Internet. In Intranet Web use, e-mail etc.. exactly like the one used on the Intranet. WARNET intranet actually very simple, there is no chance that specific content / cafe specific internal page.
Web with the database behind it, is usually the most potent tool for doing two main things:
1. Making companies / institutions become increasingly efficient, the approach taken here is usually to make management information system based on Web and database. Quite a lot of it was people in Indonesia who understand this problem MIS. If MIS / ERP company has well laid out next steps usually leads to e-commerce (trade via the Internet). It should be noted that you should not go too far into the e-commerce if the system backoffice MIS / ERP companies they will not be ready, because it will seem so flawed.
2. Making companies / institutions are becoming increasingly competitive in the world. Even if it may be a leader in the business. Creating a competitive body becomes possible only if we can cultivate in both human resources and knowledge resources that exist in the internal agency / company. Science / concepts related to this is the concept of knowledge management. Essentially how we accelerate the process of recycling, analysis, synthesis of knowledge that are either implicit or explicit. Still rarely experts in Indonesia to master the techniques they will, in fact the most excellent process control techniques are the librarians.
Extranet
Extranet or Extranet is a private network that uses Internet protocols and the public telecommunication system to share some of the information in a secure operating business or the dealer (supplier), the seller (vendor), partner (partner), customers and others.
Extranet can also be defined as a company intranet widened to users outside the company. Companies that build extranet can exchange data with a large volume of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), in collaboration with other companies in a network of cooperation and others.
Examples of applications that can be used for extranet is Lotus Notes

Application of Information Technology in the enterprise need to be done consistently with how to perform various operations process adjustments and changes in organizational structure.
(2) The design of the system or the "System design" is a process that will determine the usefulness of information technology systems in business operations.
(3) production planning, supported by information technology will improve the competitive edge of manufacturing industry.
While the other two factors tend to be corporate expenses and to reduce the company's competitive advantage is
(1) Information Technology Training is a training program for staff service company.
(2) Management technology is a planning program for the mastery of technological innovation in improving the competitiveness of enterprises.
An important factor that ensures the continuing competitive advantage is the ability or competence of sustainable enterprises (Chandler and Hanks, 1994). The ability to form the back of the company's strategy. In addition, information systems (IS) are also important in shaping the company's competitive advantage. Most of the company's failure can be attributed to the fact that the resources and capabilities of the company is not placed correctly. By ignoring the SI relation to the resources and capabilities is a major cause of failure of the company. Therefore, to gain a sustainable competitive advantage is to include Logistics Information System (LIS) as a source of competence specific role in the company.
What Logistics Information System (LIS)
Logistics Information System (LIS) is defined as people, equipment and procedures used to collect, sort, analyze, evaluate and distribute needed, time and accurate information in decision-making (Murphy and Wood, 2004). SI implementations are successful in supporting the logistics process will benefit the company (Lai, Ngai and Cheng, 2005). SI not only improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the logistics process, but also have a significant influence on logistics strategy and organizational structure (Bowersox and Daugherty, 1995). Using SI in logistics also give effect to achieve a competitive advantage.
